Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome?

Thoracic outlet syndrome sometimes called TOS is a collection of syndromes that occur when the blood vessels or nerves in the thoracic outlet (the space between your collarbone and your first rib) become compressed. This can cause pain in your shoulders and/or neck and sometimes cause numbness in your hands and fingers.

Typical causes of TOS consist of physical trauma from a car accident or sports injury, repetitive micro traumas from job or sports-related activities which may not involve an accident or specific physical trauma, certain anatomical faults, such as having an extra rib, and it can even occur during pregnancy. Older or even childhood injury can eventually lead to thoracic outlet syndrome in the present.

Treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome usually involves physical rehabilitation, chiropractic manipulation and interventional pain relief measures that are provided by our expert medical staff and chiropractic physicians at Phoenix Pain Treatment
